Installing shingles onto a roof can prove to be a challenge because you need appropriate protective gears to keep yourself safe from falling and injured. In addition, you need to have the skills and some experience to handle new roof installation or repairs. Steps to shingles installation.
1.Install the drip edge on the shed
about a half-inch to help with surface tension. Decide how you will lay your shingles beforehand, but its recommended that you start with the eve first. Ensure the drip edge is installed before felt to prevent water getting behind it.
2.Installing felt from bottom-up, starting at the eve. The felt should over the top of the drip edge allowing water to flow over top.
3.Installing starter strip along the perimeter edge of the entire roof. For higher wind protection, most shingle manufacturers recommend installing starter strip on the rakes, but not directly on the edge.
4.Installing shingles along the bottom of the eave and against the rake. For a proper look, the second shingle is installed six inches from the previous shingle.
5.Installing ridge once you’re done installing shingles. As directed by the manufacturer, draw a chalk line on top for a laser straight line.
Lastly, after your new roof installation, ensure to clean up all the loose granules on top of the roof and ensure your roof looks tidy.
