It’s summertime and anyone with air conditioning is relieved for their investment. Air conditioners and air conditioner contractors work to keep homes and businesses cool and comfortable all summer long. This video explains the basics of how a central air conditioner works to provide great comfort.
Air conditioners vary from model to model, but the fundamentals are the same for each machine. For example, every central air conditioning system has a condensing unit that sits outside of the home. The condensing unit contains the condenser coils, the compressor, and the condenser fan motor.
On the interior, there are evaporator coils that sit on top of a furnace or air handler. The furnace or air handler uses a blower fan to draw air through the return vent, past the evaporator coils which cool the air, and then through air ducts back into the home. The air is then drawn back into return vents to continue the cycle.
Once the air has cooled, the thermostat tells the condenser unit to turn off. As the temperature increases, the thermostat will tell the condenser to turn back on to cool things down. For more information, click on the video in the link above.
