Plumbing issues are not uncommon in many homes. They may be caused by various problems such as leaking pipes. When this happens, one should know how to fix the leak. This video shows how to fix some common leaks in a home. If one has a leaking pipe at home, they should first determine the source of the leak and then call a plumber.
The plumber can fix the leak by either tightening a joint, patching the leak, or replacing a section of the pipe.
When conducting plumbing repairs, the plumber decides what joint to use. The first joint is the IPS joint. Here, the plumber wraps a Teflon tape around the joint’s thread, then uses pipe dope or thread sealant to gently rub around the joint’s threads with the tape.
Alternatively, the plumber can choose to use a compression or soda joint. Compression joints have a nut and ferrule system. The nut has a thread that holds the ferrule. Then, as the ferrule is turned in, it crushes down to the pipe wall to form one piece of a pipe or a mechanical joint that fixes the leak.
