The first step in building an exterior staircase involves removing the old staircase. Make sure the exterior staircase is in the doorway and parallel to the house. Place the anchor board against the home’s side.
Secure it with screws. Drill pilot holes with a masonry bit. This ensures the anchors and/or the masonry screws you’re using are all set. Then you want to secure the anchor board to brick or concrete.
The next step is setting the posts by their brackets and fastening them to make sure they’re stable. You need to notch the stringer material to allow for the integration of the risers and the treads. Use the carpenter’s square and stair gauges. Use a bolt to fasten the stringer to the lower landing.
Use a joist hanger to hang the stringers and 8-diameter galvanized nails to fasten the stringers. Next, measure the distance from the riser’s base to the edge of the notch and gently extend the treads. After the risers are ready, you may start creating the rail by procuring 4×4-inch lumber for the exterior staircase posts, cutting the posts with notches, and fastening the posts to the stringers.
