With the rising cost of purchasing a home and rent, many people are looking for alternative options when it comes to their daily living arrangements. The use of yurts has increased along with tiny homes and homes made from shipping containers. This video will showcase the innovative ways a shipping container can be transformed into a viable living space.
This tiny home was built using a 40-foot-long shipping container and nearly everything in it was made by hand. This includes the ceiling, flooring, tables, storage cabinets and all the furniture in the living area and bedrooms.
Some items were made so creatively that they serve more than one purpose. The design itself draws from the clean lines of Japanese architecture.
The container home contains exterior vents that keep the heat and humidity out of the home and show area. The electrical unit has a 9,000 mini-split that both heats and cools the home. The large windows and 72″ slider doors let in plenty of natural light, giving it an open, non-claustrophobic feel. The interior of the home is very quiet with windows and doors closed.
The kitchen utilizes a full-sized refrigerator and range top/oven, and the microwave is built in, reducing clutter on top of the counters. The living room has a futon that transitions into a secondary bed, while the bedroom has a bed, side tables, and a second TV.
Each item was created to be versatile, useful, and scaled down to the size of the home. Yet the home is very stylish and comfortable with plenty of storage space built in. While this model costs around $60,000, other units will cost less due to this unit needing plans drawn up, permits garnered and structural engineers lending their approval.
If this is something that appeals to you, and you scale down your home, there are many innovative builders creating small, functional homes built for permanent use. Do your due diligence, find the right builder, start reducing your belongings, and you may be ready for your own container home.
